Heads Up for yal!

Just so you know... we have been encouraged to enforce more strictly a few laws to see if we can make a change in the way people drive. We will continue to be strict on speed. Because we strongly believe that speed is what kills. But we have been encouraged to pay more attention to a few others like: Following too close Impeding traffic (too slow in left lane) Signaling (failure to signal, not signaling for two seconds) Aggressive Driving (or reckless driving) Also, just so you know... there is now a Careless Driving ticket which UHP will enforce. Not sure if this applies to city enforcement or not. But UHP can cite you for it. It is a distracted driving ticket. Which means that if you violate a moving traffic law while being distracted, you can receive a ticket. that does not apply to speeding though. You can talk on your cell phone and speed, and cannot receive a Careless Driving ticket. Distractions are defined as any action not related to operating your automobile (ie: cell phone, shaving, reaching for item in car...etc.). Or it is two consecutive moving violations in a row, with the exception to speed. Our legislators don't consider speed to be very dangerous so that is why the law was written with that exception. Be careful on the road...I just wanted you to know about these to not only avoid getting a ticket, but as you do these few simple things, we can all help to avoid accidents which in end helps save lives..."Zero Fatalities, A goal we can all live with".

Go get 'em.

I fully endorse the crackdown of all the nuts on the road. I've stopped taking the most direct route to and from work because stupid people drive the "curve" in the road hugging the curb, ignoring the bike lane, and are oblivious to me in that lane while they talk on their cell phone with their left hand and hold their drink/burger/cigarette in the right hand (just what are they steering with and how can they possibly get to where they want to go without killing or maiming someone or something?). And most don't seem to know that the law (and common sense) says a driver must keep his vehicle at least three feet away from a bicyclist on the road.

We like almost everything here in Utah more than what we left in California, but the drivers here are are at the top of the short "List of Things Worse than in California." When we see someone up ahead driving as though their vision/judgement/sensibilities are impaired, nine times out of ten they are on a cell phone. Truth is, many, if not most, people are incapable of driving responsibly while using the cell. So Dave, is this against the law? If not, it ought to be.

Again, crack down, baby.

Some city oridinances prohibit the use of cell phones while driving? As far as the new "Careless driving" law, you have to violate a traffic law, while being distracted, for it to work. Simply using a cell phone while driving is not a violation.

Why don't you ride your bike to work with your clothes off? This would solve the problem of people not giving you the proper 3 feet of clearance as they pass.

They would probably drop their beer and their cell phone and thus have both hands available to hold the wheel as they swerve around you.

I actually tried that once. Icicles formed.

I seem to remember my father driving me to school when we lived in Spring City. While eating a full-course breakfast he would steer with one knee and engage both hands in drinking his milk and eating his toast and eggs.

I have many memories of Dad doing the same thing Eric. What a goof. But anyway, I would love to have those very laws ENFORCED out here. I don't know what it is about Clarksville but we have THE most retarded drivers. Another reason I like having a big truck, little coffee-can imports can't get around me if I don't want them too and they are intimidated by my bumper and head lights filling their rear-view mirror.

Silly boys. It's the cell phone thrown into the mix that upsets the applecart
